Kelewele (Spicy Diced Plantains)

Kelewele (Kay-lay-way-lay) is street snack which originates from Ghana, West Africa. It is spicy and semi-crunchy on the outside, and sweet and semi-soft on the inside. Authentically, it is deep fried until golden grown, but with the advent of the airfryer, some have evolved to using it to achieve that same effect.



  • Peel and dice the plantain.

  • Sprinkle on the seasoning and water, and rub gentle over the plantains until thoroughly coated.

  • Heat up the oil on medium heat and add in the seasoned plantain.

  • Fry until it is golden brown and scoop unto paper towel to blot the excess oil from frying.
