Peri-Peri Chicken

Although the South African food chain @nandosusa has popularized peri-peri chicken, historical texts highlights its origin to be from Mozambique.

After the introduction of the peri-peri chili peppers by the Portuguese to its colonial territories in Southern African including Mozambique, the Portuguese created the peri-peri sauce as an African styled version of a Portuguese sauce.

Since then, the peri-peri sauce has become one of the staple sauces in the Southern African region. The culinary breakdown of the peri-peri sauce is chili and garlic, with an oily and/or acidic base.
